Thanksgiving Traditions
The holidays are always great to look forward to throughout the year. Thanksgiving is one of the best because of all of the feast and family reunions. My family makes dinner and spends the whole day together. It is usually a weird feeling to be around everyone because we don’t see each other to much the rest of the year. The holiday really brings all of us together.
My mother likes to bring my grandmother from El Salvador every year so we can really spend time as a family. My family is that big but we make the best of it. It is always like a routine when Grandma comes. We set out to the airport to pick her up. Traffic is to be expected and is heavy. We get to the airport and it is just crazy packed with people everywhere. We spend a lot of time at the airport waiting for the arrivals and to see Grandma.
Once we pick up Grandma we don’t go back home right away. We have always driven through the neighborhoods of San Francisco because my grandmother loves the city. I enjoy this little adventure because it only happens once a year so it is pretty special. My grandmother comes for one reason, and that is to help cook. Grandma loves to feed us and I am fine with that. We make the turkey like every other family. The house is nice and warm all day because the oven is on all day. At times I have to step out of the house for some fresh air because of all of the noise and commotion.
When it is time to eat I race to the table because I can’t wait to feel satisfied. All of the food set out on the table has my mouth watering. The family sits down and we say grace. At that moment I am happy and I can feel that everyone else is as well, time to dig in.
After the feast we get ready for the long and fun night ahead of us. It’s Black Friday soon and we have to be on our way because the fun is about to begin. I get a big rush from being in crowds and I get this feeling on this Friday. It’s crazy, hectic and Grandma loves it just as much as I do....
