Outline Material deprivation in working class children's education achievement

MD is poverty which is a lack of basic necesities such as housing, clothing, adequate diet or the financial support to buy these necessities. Unlike CD theorists who blame education under-achievement on the working class subculture, many other sociologists see MD as te main cause of underachievement. Marists support the idea that MD is to blame for underachievement in education.

Housing is one of the major factors that an affect a child's educational achievements and their education indirectly and directly. A direct effect is usually overcrowding in households. This will make ti harder for the child to study because there is less room for educational activities such as homework and disturbed sleep could affct as they share beds or bedrooms. This affects the child's education as so they fall behind at school. They may also lack sleep and are not able to concentrate in school the next day and they will not be intellectually developed due to not being able to do their educational activities. Another factor that may affect a child's education is living in temporary accomodation.such as Bed and Breakfasts. Families who live in temporary education may find themselves moving more often than others. This may result the child to move to other school which will interrupt their education as not every school teaches the same topic. Finally, children who live in cold or damp housing may become ill, and so they may have to take time off school. This will mean they will miss our on their education and there will be a huge missing gap in their understanding and knowledge, therefore causing the child to fail in their studies.
