Liberty State College and Williams Gates College Admissions and Student Activities

The purpose of this paper is to analyze contractual relationships that may occur on college campuses between college administrations and college students. Liberty State College is a public four-year institution that mainly places emphasis on undergraduate programs. William Gates College is a private liberal arts institution. Both institutions over the summer hired a Dean of Admissions and a Director of Student Activities. These institutions are located in the same state and close to 70 miles apart. This paper will illustrate two separate incidents that occurred with the new employees at these institutions.

Michael Socha, was potentially looking at both institutions in hopes to enroll as a full-time student. Michael’s grades in high school were not exemplary, but he managed to receive a 2.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. When Michael attempted to enroll in William Gates College the Dean of Admissions advised him that his requisite academic background disallowed him from being admitted in the undergraduate program. The Dean of Admission recommended that Michael enroll in some summer courses and maybe the College would accept him for enrollment after he successfully completed that curriculum. Michael was discouraged by the news he received and decided to give Liberty State College a try. Upon arrival at Liberty College, Michael received the same news he received at William Gates College concerning his academic status. However, the Dean of Admissions at Liberty College suggested that Michael consider a special program that offered a provisional status to students who did not meet the admissions criteria.
