Government Internet Access

Government should not be involved with providing the access to broadband service. I say this because the government should be contracted with providers to possibly reimburse companies for the cost to roll out broadband services to these areas but not directly involved with the providing of said services. By allowing the government to be allowed in the sale of private goods, we are converting to a socialist society and that is not what our country was built upon. By allowing companies to get compensated for the expenses involved in rolling out broadband services to rural areas, we are allowing these companies to maintain the sale and distribution of private goods and the government is still involved in getting the service to these areas without being directly involved.

In today’s society, everything requires internet for everything from job applications to going to school. By going a Google search, you will find that many state run offices have offices dedicated to just Cable and Broadband services. We do not have an office like that here in South Carolina but that is due to the amount of internet services available. In the areas around South Carolina from cable internet from companies such as Time Warner Cable, DSL from AT&T, or satellite internet from Hughes Net. This means that households have plenty of options available to them to get internet service in their areas.

Another reason that this does not bode well for people to get government provided internet services is after looking at the debacle of Healthcare.gov and the problems that still plague the website. People that are getting the services from these state run agencies will encounter some of the same problems that were seen during the rollout of this program.

So, to sum all of this up, I don’t believe that the government has any place in providing this private good to households...
