The targeted market for Kudler’s fine foods products and services can be defined as the pool of consumers and businesses that will consider purchasing items from them. In other words, there is a need that Kudler’s might help them fulfill. It is important to clearly define the potential market before conduct research. Once the prospective audience, scope of business, and the corresponding potential market for the products and services has been confirmed, it is then time to determine why a consumer or business would purchase from Kudler’s over the competitor. Is Kudler’s offering the lowest price, exceptional customer service, a unique selection of products not available at other stores? Before conducting marketing strategies and investing significant time and money into the process Kudler’s needs to find their niche and determine the clients’ willingness to pay for the products they are offering.

Kudler’s currently has three locations Del Mar, La Jolla, and Encinitas. The first process is to survey the demographic of these areas to find out the economic standing, culture, and taste level of those who will potentially frequent the store. Doing this will help store to provide products that people will purchase and price them according to affordability, competitor’s price, maximizing revenue for the store.

In Del Mar, CA the median age is 48, which indicates a mature consumer base potentially well versed in their liking for Kudler’s exclusive products. With a median household income in 2011 of $106,675 this is an indicator that there is substantial disposable income for some of the high end things the store is known to carry. With the majority of the professionals in this area in the field of finance/ insurance and being in the top executive levels in the industry this is a great location for a store based on the “taste level” that those in the position as white collar executive tend to have.
