What is your name?

-Saul Sanchez

What kind of work do you do?

-I am a warehouse manager of 7 employees. I make sure all operations are completed before the work day ends.

How long have you been doing it?

-I’ve been a manager for 5 years.

Why did you end up doing this work? What kind of person often does this sort of work?

-I knew someone in the company that gave me the opportunity to be the manager, and I been here ever sense. The type of person who does my job is someone who has people and customer service skills, and a good work ethic.

What do you like about this work?

-I like my job because I am able to get off at a decent time, and I make pretty good money.

What is difficult about this work?

-The only difficult thing is helping my employees do their job because, on top of that I am doing my work and it just becomes overwhelming at times.

How do [customers, others in the company, etc.] treat you? What do they think about the job you do?

-Customers treat me with respect because they come to my place of business and they want to buy from me. My employees are different because we share friendly relationships, and I let them be free as long as the work gets done. I feel like they respect me and likes how I run my operation, and how I buy them lunch every other Friday.

How does being a Mexican American play into the work you do?

* It helps out tremendously because two of my employees are Mexican, and I’m able to speak to them in Spanish to expedite conversations so they can get back to work. It also helps with customers or vendors who are Mexican as well. Being able to speak both Spanish and English is a plus in my field.

Has this work changed the way you think about yourself and about the world?

-Over my five years as a manager I grew into a people person because it was forced within the position I held. Becoming a people person helped me understand other cultural and why they do the things they do....
