I choose street painting or sometimes known as sidewalk chalk art. This type of art work, up until a few years ago was really unusual in that people were not use to seeing this type of art and is also 3D. The difference between 2D and 3D is that 2D is width and length; however 3D is width, length and depth in one. Take for instance Julian Beever, one of the most notorious street artists in the business and one of his paintings is an extra large coke a cola bottle on the side walk. The picture; get a picture with it. Then you have another painting that appears to be a guy on a ledge and Batman and Robin are coming to the rescue, but they guy is only 2 feet off the ground. I have never seen any of these paintings from any of the multitude of artist that make these paintings but this would diffently make me think on some of these painting can I really walk over it or would I fall in [ (Smith) ]. Street painting actually started in Europe and possibly originated in Italy in the 16th century. According to Kurt Wenner’s website the Italian madonnari were called vagabond artist that traveled between festivals and lived off the money that was given to them for their art work. Originally they painted religious pictures directly on the ground utilizing chalk, brick, charcoal and colored stones; just like we did as kids and like our kids draw on our drive ways today.

These artists suffered during the World War II; however some continued to paint into the 1980’s thanks to the international street painting Festival in northern Italy. This art work caught on and was soon seen in London in the mid-nineteenth century, but was called “screevers”, which later on was in the Disney film Mary Poppins.
