Abstract

Carl Robbins, the new campus recruiter at ABC, Inc, showed lack of responsibility and follow through. He ignored the job until the last minute where he encountered several obstacles that will affect his ability to complete the process in the time that he promised.

Carl Robbins was hired as the new campus recruiter at ABC, Inc. It was his job to accept applications and hire new employees. The person he was hiring for was Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor. It was Carl’s job to make sure the new hires were ready to begin work by July. This included coordinating appointments, setting up training and making sure all paperwork was ready. Carl confirmed with Monica that everything would be ready, when in fact it was not. When Carl double checked to ensure that the deadline would be met, he realized he had not done everything he needed to do. He was left with many obstacles to overcome in a short amount of time.

The main problems identified in the case study are as follows, lack of task completion in employee files, lack of proper planning with regards to setting up appointments and training, and arrogance in thinking the job was completed, when in truth it was not.

Let us examine the first problem being lack of task completion. Carl failed to make sure the applications were completed, this should have been done before anyone was even hired. An incomplete application poses many unanswered questions. Are they legal to work in this country? Can they meet the physical and mental requirements of the job? Have you ever worked for this company, or one its competitors? These questions are critical to the legality of the hiring of any employee.
