Introduction

SysMaster Corporation is a leading vendor of voice, video, and data equipment, serving emerging and traditional telecoms and service providers. The company offers extensive line of Voice-over-IP, IPTV, and Wireless products and solutions, which enable service providers to build robust and scalable networks for delivery of next generation services to subscribers. SysMaster’s innovative solutions are successfully deployed in over 60 countries worldwide. Unfortunately the company was affected by the global economic crisis of 2008/2009 and in a desperate attempt to save the company, management implemented drastic measures by downsizing 45% of its employees, subsequently my employment status was affected – I was laid off. I held the position of technical trainer and senior sales engineer. Looking back in assessment of my tenor with the company, overall I felt a sense of achievement through my contributions to the workforce, valued the wealth of technical experience gained and most appreciative to camaraderie of past colleagues.

As required in the Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI) class assignment, I reviewed SysMaster Corporation; the highest style rating was 77% in the “Affiliative” quadrant – which is indicative to a “culture that places a high priority on positive interpersonal relationships”. The second highest style was “Humanistic-Encouraging” with a rating of 64%; this is a positive attribute. As outline in the feedback analysis, this aspect “characterizes organizations that are managed in a participative and person-centered way.
