A Reaction Paper on the Documentary, Super Size Me

Super Size Me is an independent documentary made by American film maker Morgan Spurlock. It shows Spurlock’s experiment wherein he will only eat food offered by Mcdonald’s for 30 consecutive days. It showed the drastic effects of eating fastfood often.

The experiment he had done is something you can call as “suicidal”, yet it is very brave of him to do it just to prove to the people the harsh truth about fastfood.

As I was watching the film, it made me realize that even eating fastfood once a week will make a big impact to our health. I realized that food companies today don’t care for the effects that their products give to the consumers. It’s the business that matters for them. As long as their product sells good, then they will continue manufacturing it but they will not care about its quality.

On the other hand, I think that filing a case against fastfood chains is stupid. We, the consumers, are the ones at fault. We should be able to see, feel, or notice the side effects of eating fastfood. Others may don’t notice that but they should know that processed foods are available all year round because of the preservatives it contains. Preservatives are chemicals. Therefore, we are also consuming chemicals which are unnecessary to our body.

I am a French fries addict. Since my high school is near Jollibee, students tend to go there frequently, and I am one of those students. Every Friday, I and my friends hold a “French fries party” to celebrate the last day of school week. We know that eating fries is bad but we still continue to do so because eating French fries is very addictive. Also, it serves as our consolation for the stress we endured the whole week.

In the end, Super Size Me is a powerful documentary because it conveyed the serious message to the audience using comedy factors and familiarity to the main problem. :)...
