Ethical Perspectives

The Mysterious Roses and The Cold Feet are two ethical games that were presented in a simulation for students to analyze. The issue in The Mysterious Roses dealt with sexual harassment in the workplace and in The Cold Feet, the situation dealt with falsifying and/or providing inaccurate data on a medical report about to be published and whether or not you become a “whistleblower”. Both dilemmas raised ethical issues that will be discussed in this summary paper.

The decision-making steps that were taken to ethically address these issues are very common to people in general. It is also one very familiar to me while I served in the military. The Seven Steps to Problem Solving are steps that can help you whenever you are faced with any dilemma. They are as follows: Define and Identify the Problem, Analyze the Problem, Identify Possible Solutions, Select the Best Solutions, Evaluate Solutions, Develop an Action Plan and Implement the Solution. In both dilemmas, I was able to identify what the issue was, who was going to be directly affected, who were the primary stakeholders in the problem, what my duty was in regards to the company and how much will each stakeholder be affected by the decisions I took. In The Mysterious Roses, dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace is considered unethical whether it’s intolerance or abuse of privilege or power. Harassment of any type is considered poor business practice and it creates unnecessary liability and reduces employee productivity. Prejudices are reflected in any kind of harassment that prevents women, different races, those with physical disabilities and minorities from feeling safe and comfortable. In the second dilemma, The Cold Feet, how do you handle the situation when you believe that a trusted colleague has violated ethical rules by falsifying data in a report?
