Introduction:

Globalization, competitive market environment, short life cycles of the product and increased expectations of the customers have compelled the businesses to pay attention and invest largely in supply chains. Along with these factors the advancement in communication technologies for example development of mobile phone technology, Internet and transportation facilities like containerization, development of express routes and overnight delivery has increased the evolution of the supply chain and of the methods to manage it effectively. Further it is also evident that for cost reduction and improvising the services effective supply chain approaches should be implemented (Gunasekaran, 2004).

In this term paper the supply chain management of one of the education providing company will be discussed. This company is: Global Education Network” (GEN).

Background:

In this section of the term paper, the concepts and definitions related to supply chain management will be discussed.

Supply Chain Management:

Supply chain management is defined as a set of strategies used to efficiently incorporate all the entities of chain of distribution which include manufacturers, warehouses, wholesalers and retailers so that the goods are produced in right quantity and are distributed to the right location at right point of time. Therefore the overall cost is reduced and customer satisfaction is achieved.

The definition leads to the consideration that every activity in the supply chain management leads to fulfilling the customers’ requirements whether the customers of the manufactures, wholesaler or retailer.
