Xavier Day

Mixed emotions were presented when we knew that the usual five days celebration for our Xavier Festival was turned into a one day celebration. Students were all shocked, sad, frustrated, some are happy, etc. but as what Fr. Roberto Yap (our president) said is that this is a one day celebration in solidarity with the Yolanda victims and of course a celebration for the Feast Day of Francis Xavier our patron. It is a celebration of Faith because despite of all the bad things that we experienced it is just a challenge to test and to strengthen our faith in God. It is also a celebration of Hope. Hope for all people, especially to those who are victims of the calamities. That we must always believe that there is always a God who will protect and love us. Who will forgive our sins no matter how big it is and that there is always hope in Him. The budget that was intended to be used for the five days celebration was donated to the people who are most in need. We didn’t celebrate too much, for our country was still in a state of mourning because of the devastating calamities that struck our nation.

Even though it is just a one day celebration, as we go around the campus with my friends I still saw people enjoying the activities that each organizations prepared that they were all happy and really enjoyed what they are doing. Also the students are excited to present their unique talents. There are also students who are from different schools and gave time to visit and also celebrated with us and they do loved the caroling contest and other performances and also told us that the Ateneans are really blessed in such talents. And they are looking forward for the next year’s celebration that the five days celebration will be back again so that they can enjoy more and have some fun time in Xavier with their friends.
