The Body Shop is a manufacturer and retailer of skin and hair care cosmetic products. The Body Shop takes the safety of the product it sells very seriously and has a responsible approach to the use against criteria of health and safety environment impact and against animal testing policy. As a result they of this process, they prohibit the use of range of common chemicals in their products. All formulations developed for The Body Shop are also subject to careful evaluation by independent external safety assessors. the protection of flora and fauna is an integral part of the body shop approach to product. They do not source materials derived from endangered and threatened species.

The Body Shop is not an all-natural company. While a small number of companies may specialise in selling natural cosmetic products in small, usable quantities, most cosmetic companies are not able to manufacture an all-natural product with a consistently high quality and long shelf life without the use of some synthetics. All our formulations, therefore, contain various levels of synthetics, preservatives and emulsifiers, which are needed to protect the products and consumers against bacteria, yeasts and moulds.

Wherever possible, we aim to source our natural ingredients such as plants, herbs, fruits, nuts and so forth from sustainable sources. We aim to use naturally-based ingredients as constituents in our products, selected for their natural skin caring and moisturising properties and used in appropriate levels.

The Body Shop is careful to select ‘natural’ and chemical ingredients and packaging materials that have a good safety and environmental record. We adopt a precautionary principle if there are legitimate concerns about the safety credentials of materials. For example, as far back as 1992, The Body Shop took the decision to move out of PVC packaging and products.
