Five Guys and a Burger

Five Guys and a Burger is a fast food restaurant chain whose main focus is its hamburgers, hotdogs, and fries. The first Five Guys restaurant opened in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia by Jerry Murrell and four of his sons. Today the five guys that lead the chain are the five Murrell brothers, Matt, Jim, Chad, Ben, and Tyler. Before franchising, Five Guys was just a little family owned burger operation with five locations across the Washington DC metro area. Five Guys Burgers and Fries first began to franchise in 2003 selling permits for over 300 franchised locations. . Today the business is by some estimates heading toward $1 billion in value. Five Guys has 87 locations. Most are in the Washington region, but a hundred more will open along the East Coast this year, and another thousand are being phased in. Each store, the company says, pulls in about $1 million a year.

As of last year, 2012, they had expanded to over 1,000 locations throughout the United States and Canada. Five Guys was proclamed to be the fastest growing fast food chain from 2010 to 2011.(LATimes, 2012)
