Sherlock Holmes is the best detective on Baker Street, he is always getting new clients who went to the police and did not receive answers to their mystery, or individuals that would rather not deal with the police and, want to go straight to a man who knows what he is doing. Sherlock Holmes is very well known to the people who live around him and, he always finds a solution to everyone's problems.

In The Case of Identity, Holmes was confronted by a woman that goes by the name of Miss Mary Sutherland. She was a widow that was about to get married to the man of her dreams, Mr. Hosmer Angel. Mr. Angel had randomly stopped talking to her the day their wedding was set to take place. Mr. Hosmer Angel previously had spoken to Mary with the deepest love and compassion any woman could wish for, he would always write to her and met with her when her step dad was away. The mystery was why would this man make Mary fall in love with her and then disappear the day of the wedding? The police did everything in their power to find out what happened to him but couldn't figure anything out. This is why Mary came to Holmes and asked him what he thought of the whole situation.

Holmes started piecing together any and all clues he could find to try to help him figure out what happened to Mr. Hosmer Angel. The first thing he noticed was that the step father wouldn’t let Mary see any men or let her visit with anyone outside of their family. He thought this was a very strange when noticing that she was past the age at which women start families. Before Mary left Holmes's office he told her to write down a very detailed description of Mr. Hosmer Angle.
