First, I believe that humans are above animals because humans have a soul. Humans have knowledge of what is right and wrong, we are created in the image of God and because of this we ARE above animals. However, with this knowledge and ability comes responsibility. God put humans over the earth to care for the earth, it's our job to do this; actually it's commanded. Because humans are above the earth (and plants, animals etc) we shouldn't put animals or plants (rainforest etc) ahead of humans. This being said I believe there are "selfish" reasons to care for animals and the earth if nothing more. For example, people who abuse animals have psychological side effects and when we cut down the rainforest we are depleting our own oxygen supply.

Second. This movie is very grotesque. It has to be to get that "pity vote" from some people. I tend to be a little more thick skinned when it comes to this; believe me when I say reading the USDA minimum meat regulations will do this. I've never been squeamish (I've wanted to be a doctor most of my life) and although I do love my animals, I think there are limits to everything. This movie doesn't really respect any of these limits; this is a good and a bad thing. I was very disturbed after watching this. Moral of the story: if you're one of those people who cries at the Humane Society commercials on TV, you don't wanna watch this movie. This is a brutal reality check on how animals are treated.

Third. I am totally for the eating of animals who were killed humanely. (Go Joel Salatin) PS if you don't know who this amazing and extremely intelligent man is, google him on the internet machine. Read all of his books. (Oh, he's from my hometown!) When I discuss the treatment of animals, I'm speaking of the big slaughterhouses and not the farmers who do care for their animals.

Okay, now that we've covered some bases, let's get to the movie.

"Earthlings" is a documentary film narrated by Joaquin Phoenix and it is...
