Abstract
Demonstrative communication is a very important part of communication. It includes nonverbal and written communication, and it involves facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language. Demonstrative can be effective or ineffective depending on how it is received by the receiver. It can also have a positive or negative impact depending how it is sent and received. Positive and effective demonstrative communication has a shared understanding between the sender and the receiver.
Demonstrative Communication
Demonstrative communication is a type of communication that includes nonverbal and written communication. Demonstrative communication involves facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language. It can be effective or ineffective depending upon how it is received. Also, it can be either positive or negative depending upon how it is sent and received.
Communication is defined as the process of sending and receiving messages (Cheesebro, O'Connor, & Rios, 2010, p. 5). Communication simply cannot be avoided. Someone can choose to not verbally respond to someone that is attempting to communicate with them, but that person will still send nonverbal signals such as facial expressions and body language. This is part of what is known as demonstrative communication. When a supervisor sends a message or tells a subordinate to do something, he or she can express what they want and how they want something done by his or her tone of voice. Teachers also use various tones of voice when teaching subjects and material to students, emphasizing certain words or key points. In job interviews, the interviewer will ask the potential candidate various questions and look for specific facial expressions (such as a smile, eye conteact, etcetera) and body language (such as posture, where the candidate’s feet are pointing, etcetera).
