Dear Alex and Jessica,

Congratulations on your recent engagement. I pray that the love you share now continues to grow and flourish for the rest of your lives together. As you probably already know, communication is the key to any relationship, if you do not communicate with each other effectively, then your relationship will ultimately suffer. Please take my advice sincerely and apply it to your relationship accordingly. Communication is a two way street, so it will take both of your cooperation to make it successful.

Privacy concerning your relationship is the most important. When I say this, I do not mean privacy with each other, I specifically mean when talking to others. There are many things about your relationship that you should not share with others. There are also things in your relationship that others do not want to hear. One of these many things is arguments that happen between the two of you. Sharing your arguments with friends or coworkers could possibly damage your relationship especially if one of you hears about it from someone else. Nobody likes to have their dirty laundry spread all around town. Sharing the intimate details of your arguments with others opens your relationship up to other people’s misconceptions and gossip.Taking this route would only make the situation worse.

Communication also involves effective listening. Making sure you truly understand what the other one is saying is the key to communicating effectively. Since everyone communicates differently, it is important that you verify with the other person what you think you have heard. Clarification of what you heard prevents arguments in your relationship.
