Abstract

Ed Snider is an entrepreneur who is management style is like no other. He founded the Philadelphia Flyers and brought hockey to the city of Philadelphia and created the company Comcast-Spectacor. He is currently the Chairman of Comcast-Spectacor. He would be considered a top manager. A top manager is one who establishes organizational goal, decides how departments should interact, and monitors the performance of middle managers.

Ed Snider who is an entrepreneur was born on January 6th, 1933 in Washington D.C. He received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland and eventually became part of Edge Ltd., which was a record company. Shortly after selling that company, Ed Snider bought 7 percent share in the Philadelphia Eagles where he would serve as the vice president and treasurer of the team. Snider was a business man from an early age, he knew there was money in sports teams, and eventually brought hockey to Philadelphia. Once the National Hockey League (NHL) decided to expand from its 6 team league Snider knew the team would fit in perfectly in the city of brotherly love.

In 1967, the Philadelphia Flyers would have their inaugural season in their new arena which was name the Spectrum. Both the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and the 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) would call the Spectrum home. Snider not only had a vision for both of these teams, but also had a vision for other business which would be ran under Specatcor which was created in 1974. Spectacor would be the holding company for the Flyers and their home the Spectrum. Ed Snider is also responsible for creating PRISM which was a premium cable channel and WIP which was the first all-sports radio station.
