Being Green

Being green or going green means several different things to me, such as planting trees, conserving energy, or creating your own energy, recycling, not wasting or throwing out food, buying products made of sustainable material, or products that are made with natural ingredients, cutting down on water use, and turning the lights off when no one is using them, driving less, car pooling or even riding a bike, walking, or taking a bus or train. Being green can mean a lot and it only takes one small change by each person to help out and make a difference in our environment.

If everyone in society did one thing to go green the environment would be a completely different place than it is today. For example for every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months. Also by recycling just one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours. By everyone taking one step to recycling one thing, the environment we live in will be on the right track. People some how need to become educated on the importance of being green, and how good it can and will be for our environment.

Unfortunately that’s not the case. Many people in the world today are so use to living like they have been living since they were born, and for many people that life style is not recycling, or trying to cut back on anything, throwing batteries in the garbage, leaving lights on when they aren’t in use, wasting water and much more. When people are use to living the same life style everyday no one is going to want to change. What people don’t realize is for every drop of water they use goes through a costly and energy intensive process to deliver and treat, so by reducing the amount of water used, you are reducing energy consumption and helping to address climate change. Saving water is not only good for human health but also for the environment....
