Psychological Stress Due To a Critically Ill Family Members
I have personally experienced what the psychological stress impact can be, when there is a very sick close relative. The thought of losing a love one is very devastating, especially when they are very young.
My nephew had a liver transplant at the age of 17 years old. He has a rare autoimmune disease that attacks his own organs. He is now 24 years old and his body is attacking the new liver and his kidneys. The family members are going through it along with the patient. The uncertainly and the thought of losing a love one can be devastating. I know my sister is physical and mentally exhausted. She does not sleep or eat, she is constantly researching and trying to find any new treatment that is available. Her blood pressure is always really high, due to the stress.
When a patient is a transplant patient, you have to have a care giver. This person is responsible for accompanying the patient to appointments, and has to made decisions for the person. This is within itself is a very stressful, and you are so consumed with the patient wellbeing, everything else comes second. The financial burden causes excessive stress.
