Cyber bullying is becoming an increasingly important problem that affects our society at large because not only can become physical abuse, but it disrupts the emotional lives of its victims, who are particularly children and teenagers. Further understanding the effects that cyber bullying has on our youth can help society with possible solutions to the problem. Bullies have been around for a long time, but the advancement of technology takes their cruel actions to a new platform.

Cyber bullying is known as the use of the technology to “harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person” (Kids Health). In some instances where when adults are involved it can be categorized as cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking. Under some circumstances these crimes can potentially result in legal consequences and possible jail sentences. There are several ways that cyber bullying can occur. Victims can receive text messages or comments/statuses from the social networking sites that are sent with cruel intentions. One of the most common actions is creating a fake account that is impersonating a victim online through a social networking site, such as Facebook. These accounts are created in order to post “personal information, photos, or videos” that have the purpose of embarrassing and bullying the other individual (Kid’s Health).

Digital media and the World Wide Web have changed modern culture. Everything from education tools to the way in which we engage in warfare has transformed. These changes have occurred so rapidly that it has only taken one generation to ensue. (PBS).The freedom that is made available through various social media platforms on the internet has made the ability to inflict any type of harm on people, such as cyber bullying, easier within our society. We live in a society where people are can access anything they want from the click of a button. We have the freedom to view any content as well as generate our own which is where the problem...
