Body Parts of Animals and Their Functions
A grasshopper has antennae to protect itself from enemies. They are also useful as organs of taste and touch
A bird has wings used for flying. It has beak used for picking up foods. Its feathers keep its body warm. And its claws to hold on to branches.
A snail has a pair of head tentacles similar to the horns of some animals. These tentacles are their sensory organ. They are used for feeling and smelling. A snail has a shell for protection.
A fish has gills used for breathing. It has fins and tails used for swimming. And it has scales to protect its body.
An elephant has a long nose called the trunk. It is used to get food. It is also used for digging, grabbing, lifting, sniffing, and breathing.
Parts of a Plant and Their Functions
1. Roots - grow under the ground. They absorb water and nutrients. They also hold the plant in place.
2. Stems - hold the leaves, flowers and fruits. They provide support to the plant. They also distribute the nutrients from the roots to the different parts of the tree.
3. Leaves -they are the food makers of the plant. They contain the green pigment called chlorophyll, they absorb sunlight needed by the plants.
4. Flowers - they make the plants look beautiful. They have different colors, sizes and shapes. Some flowers are fragrant, others are not. Some flowers develop into fruits.
5. Fruits - they contain the seed. Some fruits have one seed like mango, others have more than one seed like guava. Not all fruits can be eaten.
6. Seeds - they grow and become new plants. The food that the seeds need in order to grow are in a part of the cotyledon
