Question: Should California build the high-speed rail project that has been proposed?

Japan, France, China—these are but a few of the nations with high-speed rail as part of their national transportation infrastructures. But here in the U.S., there is no truly high-speed rail system anywhere in the nation. A plan to build high-speed rail in California proposes to change that.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (see website) lays out the authorized vision for California. Certain funding has been approved. However, it remains very controversial and faces continuing hurdles. Some question whether it will ever be built.

What is the problem? The building of the high speed railway (HSR) in California, its funding and prospective completion dates.

Key question that emerges from the problem is… Is it probable that the HSR can be completed in the time frame, with proper funding and safely?

My purpose in addressing the problem is…to decide if the HSR should be built.
