Re: Importance of Manager Behavior

As you may know the merger with EnviroTech is taking place and may have a detrimental effect on some employees as rumors continue to circulate about possible layoffs. At this time, no one is aware of who will be terminated, if anyone at all.  Nevertheless, it is important that we continue to do our jobs to the best of our ability.   As managers, we are responsible for dealing with these issues and concerns as much as it is within our power to do so. A manager’s role is to explain the affect this can have on productivity and our expectations throughout the process. We must ensure that they continue to perform at their maximum potential and productivity until these rumors have been confirmed.   Please explain the types of consequences that support employment laws and those that do not; and explain best practices for working within a diverse work environment

There may be employees with mixed attitudes or emotions about the rumors. As a manager your approach can help establish a positive open environment, which will help its team members feel secure and stay productive. It is important that we as managers stay positive and focused on the task at hand. Insure that all your employees know what is expected of them and what’s available for them to accomplish their jobs and promote quality customer satisfaction. It is also important that we regularly communicate with our employees and keep them informed on any decisions made. Mangers should address “retention comprises the activities of rewarding employees for performing their jobs effectively; ensuring harmonious working relations between employees and managers; and maintaining a safe, healthy work environment” (et cetera, 2000).
