PHOBIA

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” (Lovecraft, ¶1). Fear has always been a companion to mankind in his life, and according to Lovecraft, fear has been the earliest and most powerful form of emotion man has had. A more precise definition of the word is “fear of not having an easy escape route” (Connolly). Claustrophobic people often relate their fear as a feeling of entrapment without having a way out (McCarthy, 2013).
