1. Business Strategy

Google’s Objectives and Key Results, also known as OKRs, have proven to be effective at Google since its introduction by John Doerr. Organizational objectives are clearly communicated to all levels of the company so that employees have a clear line of sight of what they are working towards. Employees are encouraged to come up with their own objectives and to create their key results which they are held accountable for. OKRs are conducted depending on the nature of the business. Some are project-specific and others are time-specific such as quarterly and annual objectives. OKRs are also great opportunities for managers and their teams to brainstorm ideas and suggestions on how to achieve the organizational goals.

Google consolidated its success by zeroing in on functions that used to command premiums large enough to power companies like America Online and Microsoft. Google offers these services at no cost to the user, capturing the dangling value by legalizing user data. Google's was genius when they decided to build a business model based on an alternative way of legalizing an activity for which people had been too happy to stop paying for.

2. HR Strategy

Google is overall successful company because their employees have to be consistently keeping up with the company’s innovative needs, if they want to continue to be an employee with Google. If Google believes that its employee are not keeping up with their standards then they have made it clear that they have no problem replacing an employee with the newest top graduate from an Ivy League school. Google tries to involve as many departments as possible in their hiring process. By doing so, they feel that it allows the candidate to have a good understanding about the organizations values and culture.
