Genetic Technology

Eugenics is the study of or belief of improving the qualities of human populations. There are both positive and negative Eugenics. To discourage reproduction to prevent genetic defects is negative eugenics and encouraging inheriting desirable traits are known as positive eugenics. According to our key concepts Eugenics is the study of hereditary improvement of the human race by controlled selective breeding. I believe there is a point of going too far with manipulating genes to develop an advanced society  According to Kant’s Theory, “We are never to treat other people as if they do not matter or count, or as if they exist simply to fulfill our purposes. This Kantian idea is reflected in the insistence that patients and research subjects must give informed consent before they can be treated or used in experiments. We also show respect for persons by telling them the truth, even when such knowledge might be painful, and by allowing them to make their own moral choices, even when we think they will choose unwisely. Thus, Kantian ethics has been a strong force against the medical paternalism that held sway until fairly recently” (Steinbock, London & Arras, p. 17, para. 2).

Once there is a group of people politically or otherwise take control of our future by deciding to use Eugenics or genetic manipulation this becomes a huge ethical issue, and if it’s used for procreation for an Elite race to produce an Advanced Human race it becomes highly unethical and against human nature. I don’t believe we can be genetically perfect and in manipulating genes either under a microscope and in a lab or by selective processes done otherwise will be setting up for major problems. We have observed in dogs and cats that we breed and inbreed to get a better breed, instead of getting better, it proves to have severe side effects, for instance they get cancers, kidney disease, increased mortality rate, very high likelihood they are much harder to potty train and...
