Within any organization, cultures and structures are evidence of their direction of success or failures. This paper will highlight the effects the culture and structure that Good Sports has. It will also reflect the effectiveness of the leadership styles implemented or practiced by its leadership team.

Good Sports: Structure and Culture Within

Good Sports was founded by Jason Poole a former athlete and also the Chairman of the Board. It is a company based in Coral Springs, Florida and manufactures fitness equipment such as treadmills, bikes, steppers and rowers (Simulation: Managing Across the Organization, UoP). Within the last four years, Good Sports CEO, Marvin Wallace, has managed to successfully get Good Sports recognized in more than just one state. One of its main successes is attributed to their equipment being used in hospitals. Wallace is also noted with his improvements brought to sales performance, production, and the research & development teams. It is also evident that the structure of the organization allows for the employees to recognize its leadership.

Structure. Organizational structure is defined by McShane & Von Glinow as, “the division of labor and patterns of coordination, communication, work flow, and formal power that direct organizational activities” (2005). Taking in the definition provided by McShane & Von Glinow, it is easily evident in the Good Sports organization. The Chairman of the Board remains its founder, Jason Poole, but the leadership team includes the CEO, VPs, Senior Managers and Team Managers. There are four departments within the organization; Sales, Production, Research & Development and Finance. And within each department are Senior Managers and followed by Team Members.
