Abstract

“Immigrants are given a new job and an avenue for sharing their culture at a new kind of cooking school. Abby Sturges and Jennifer Lopez uncovered what they believed to be an even more important moment surrounding food -- the time spent preparing and sharing meals with other women”.

Organizations that foster a healthy culture have clear values. This gives people a reason to embrace their culture and the cultures that surround them. The Culture Kitchen gives woman a sense of pride and enthusiasm for the organization and the work that they have performed. “Spreading culture through food”. This is the slogan used by founders Abby Sturges and Jennifer Lopez. In their organization, much more than food gets made in the kitchen. Friendships are made and confidence is created.

Important to the corporate culture in Culture Kitchen is how people of many different ethnicities come together and share recipes that they themselves prepare at home. Conversations start with ingredients that go into the recipe and escalate into the stories of their childhoods and cultures while growing up. It is a relaxing place for people to equate notes on a very personal experience without feeling invaded. This also allows people of many different ethnicities to understand the cultural backgrounds of the neighbors living within their community.

Problems that could make the organizational culture of Culture Kitchen ineffective would be its preservation and enrollment of participants. People tend to be attracted to and continue to be engaged in companies that they are compatible with. A high turnover of participants in the Culture Kitchen could play a large role in the relationship between the culture and organizational performance. People may not want to attend the classes...
