I am here today to take full responsibility for my action, and try and make sure that none
of you of make the same mistakes that I have, by instructing you on why you should
show up to work on time. The reason I am standing in front of you today is that I allowed
my phone to die and as a result my alarm did not go off and I was late for work, almost to
the point of missing movement on the day of the family day cruise.
Ill start with one of the more important reasons why you should be at work on
time. If you are not at work on you could cause all the people you work with to have to
care of your responsibilities as well as there own which could ultimately effect the overall
mission readiness of the ship as a whole.
Another big reason to be on time for work is that showing up late can have a
Negative effect on your evals, which in the long run could have an effect on whether you
make rank or not. Whether you want to make rank to make more money, or you want to
gain some more responsibility, im sure most of us want to make rank, myself included.
One more reason that you should always be on time for work is that you could
end up like me and have to serve E.M.I., or even worse you could possibly get N.J.
P. due to the fact that not showing up to work on time is a violation of a direct order from
Your chain of command. On top of that if you have a family to take care of it could end
up effecting them as well.
Being late also goes against two of the three navy core values, honor and
commitment. By showing up late you show you chain of command that you are not fully
committed to the task that you were assigned to do, and you dishonor the sailors creed by
not obeying the orders of those appointed over you. This shows your chain of command
and everyone else that you can not be fully trusted to do the task that you in which you
were assigned, whatever that may be.
