1. A region is an area with similar characteristics. 3 different regions that exist in Sudbury are Dowling, the Valley and Lively.

2. Alfred Wegener’s theory of the continental drift was that about 300 million years ago all of the landmasses collided and formed one supercontinent called Pangaea. Then about 200 million years later all of the continents broke apart and drifted to their present locations. Four piece of evidence that Wegener used to back up his theory was the jigsaw puzzle fit of all of the continents. The distribution of fossils among continents that were once connected. Similar age and structure of mountains across oceans and the glaciation on continents that are far too warm to support ice. The two main problems with Wegener’s theory were that he never mentioned anything about plate tectonics or ocean currents.

3. Earths outer shell is made up of about 20 plates. They move slowly causing earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains and formation of new crust. Moat plates are made up of continental and oceanic crust. They float on a layer of hot rock several km below the earth’s surface. They are the reason the continental drift was accepted.
