Care Company has been in operation for 12 years in the south eastern Twin Cities area. The overriding business goal of Care Company has been in providing individualized services to persons who are confronted by physical, developmental or emotional challenges in daily living. The company has a long standing tradition of providing excellent direct care services to those individuals in a community setting. Each group home is built on a foundation of the needs and desires of the individuals that live in Care Company homes. In the process of completing these services it is imperative that the company communicate effectively with different organizations and individual people. The current problem is consumer tracking and reporting is usually done by paper. Paper reporting is inefficient, expensive and paper is an outdated way of doing business.

Paper is inefficient because it takes a lot of time to keep paper organized (Beech, 2005). For example all the medical tracking for each individual client is tracked in their individual log file. Each client also has a separate log for community integration and another one for tracking nutritional goals. There is one for medical needs and is tracked and logged for each pill taken by a client. There is a place to track the daily activities for the clients as well. All of these forms are then compiled at the end of a month into a client's permanent folder. Inefficiency can be noted in that the papers are usually written with messy hand writing containing misspellings and grammatical errors. Being professional is one of the company's goals as outlined in Care Company's employee hand book. Having professional looking documents should be a top priority.
