CJ 100: Preparing for a Career in Public Safety

Overview of Course and Course Expectations

CJ 100: Preparing for a Career in Public Safety is a class to help you get prepared for what you want to do as a career. Unit 1 is the introduction to the class and seeing what you already know about the criminal justice field. The first seminar is an overview of the course and the course expectations. It is also an overview of the benefits of Kaplan University, the assistance available to you and the importance of being active in class. You need to be on time for the seminars, so you can leave on time. While in the seminar keep your personal business to yourself, which means no one needs to know why you are late or what your spouse or kids have done, basically there are no side bar conversations during the seminar about things outside of class. If you miss the seminar then you must do option 2, which is listen to the archived seminar and write a 300 to 500 word paper about the topic of the seminar for that week. You must read all sections under Course Home especially the syllabus. Discussion requirements are to respond to the main post and respond to at least 2 classmates. Spread it out over a 3 day period, and make sure it has substance, 100 word minimum. Discussions are worth 30 points, seminar is worth 20 points, and quizzes are worth 20 points. Grades are posted within 5 days after the unit has ended, which is Sunday. Late policy doesn’t apply to the discussion board or the quizzes, it only applies to assignments. 10% will be deducted each day that an assignment is late and after 5 days it will no longer be accepted.
