“For a certain type f person, Los Alamos, New Mexico might seem almost too good to be true. The streets are clean, wide and safe. The public schools are excellent…in other words, those pursuing a family-friendly, outdoorsy lifestyle could do much worse”(Chinni,Gimpel). As I read these first couple of sentences when the authors described Los Alamos, New Mexico, I could not help but think of the similarities to the place I call home. The “monied burbs” would best describe the community I live in: a small but beautiful, country setting town called Long Valley. It is apart of Morris County in New Jersey. Out of the twelve community types this one seem to represent long valley most accurately.

Morris County is one of the wealthier counties in New Jersey, with a higher family income, with the population around 487,548 (patchworknation.org). Long Valley is beautiful in all four seasons, autumn the most. It has a country setting with some farmlands, and open mountains and landscapes that anyone can view the wondrous changing trees. It is not an urban setting, it has a country feel and breathtaking views for those who live there. As you move throughout the town the scenic views continue, it has a modern feel as well when one see a variety of housing mostly more upscale, with almost everyone having large acres around them. The housing prices differ but most of them are above average. Long valley is defiantly a family oriented place. Though there are singles that live here, it is mostly young couples settling down and couples with children or elders who have lived there for generations. It is a place to raise a family, It may be a smaller, older established town but there are very attractive characteristics that make people and families stay for generations. A major plus is that the crime rate is low. Parents can have their children and play and walk outside with little worries compared to other places. Long Valley is a place where the community is mostly as one.
