The Importance of Proper Accountability and Securing Your Sensitive Items

This essay will cover the importance of maintaining proper accountability and the securing of sensitive items. I am writing this essay due to the fact I failed to properly keep account for and secure my sensitive items by leaving my NVGs out in the open on a table in Holy Joes as I left the area that they were located. In by doing so my NCO found my sensitive lying on a table at Holy Joes unsecured and alone with no one watching them, therefore secured them himself by taking them to the S-1 shop.

Accountability is the obligation that is imposed as a lawful order on a Soldier for keeping accurate order of property. Having been given this responsibility one may or may not be the actual owner of the property. To be specific accountability is usually concerned with the safekeeping, care, and custody. The Soldier Accountable on the item is usually answerable or responsible for any action that one undertakes in regard to them. Accountability is closely related with integrity. To differentiate the, two integrity describes a person who makes the choice to act or make a decision honestly, when the Soldier is faced in choosing between right and wrong.

Being Accountable would also mean being dependable, arriving to work place and appointments on time, being in the right all the time, doing what one is expected at any given time and meeting deadlines for tasks with a tight schedule.

Just like in any other institution, accountability is important to the Army. Accountability happens to be a major tool that drives any organization ahead. Since the military deals with delicate matters, this institution is concerned with the security thus the lives of many people depend on the manner in which the institutions are run. A soldier is responsible for all items issued to them; these are weapons, NVGs, Vehicles, and other things.
