Alone

“Hello, can anybody hear me?”

Silence, Alex hears nothing but his own voice in the empty black room. He paces back and forth, wondering what is going to happen next. He is alone with his thoughts; he can’t remember how long he has been in the room. Alex is scared, but he knows he is here for a reason, but he can’t figure out what it is.

“Why did you choose me?” Alex exclaims and the walls. “Why am I here?” Nothing but silence surrounds him.

He looks around and sees a peculiar instrument that is ticking away. Alex kneels down and picks it up in his hand. He can barely hold it in one hand it’s so heavy. He can’t recognize what the instrument is and what it is used for. He looks around and tries to see where the thing came from but all he sees is darkness.

“What is this, a key?” He thinks to himself. “But where does it go? I am completely enclosed in this room.”

Tick, Tick, Tick. He holds it in his hand and examines it closely. It was the size of a baseball but was in the shape of a pyramid. Odd symbols were written all over it and moving around at a rapid pace and it had a faint glow. It was a translucent red and was so smooth that it seemed unreal. The ticks kept coming, tick, tick, tick.

“It must be a clock!” Alex shouted. “But how do I read it?” He thought to himself. He looks at it from all angles and couldn’t figure it out.

“Maybe it has something to do writing?” The symbols were bouncing around at such a rapid pace, how he could ever try to decipher them. These symbols are like nothing Alex has ever seen.

“It doesn’t make sense!” Alex thought.

Then Alex starts to think. Alex thinks about how everything began just five short years ago on his way to work. It was a cool Sunday morning, birds chirping, carolers singing, and children writing their letters to Santa. Alex was on his way to church and couldn’t be happier. Christmas time was coming and everyone seemed full of Christmas spirit.
