Comparison of Toyota Yaris and Fiat 500

Recently, small cars have become more popular because of their economic fuel consume, reliability, and easy driving and parking for current city roads. For college students, teenagers, retired people, and limited budget families, small cars are inevitable option to buy. High demand to small cars has inclined to new sporty and stylish compact small cars such as Fiat 500.

In this paper, I will compare two popular small cars, Toyota Yaris and Fiat 500 for US market. According to 2012 Harris EquiTrend study, Toyota which has some quality concern in 2011, held second place after Honda as high brand equity in 2012 as seen table 1a on below. The survey reveals that Japanese and German cars are more favorite brands for automotive.

In 2012, Toyota Yaris has only hatchback design by longer and lower model, and more aggressive and sportier appearance than previous year’s models. Yaris also has more cargo and passenger space by 5 seats. According to motortrend.com which organizes a competition to determine 2012 motor trend car for 35 different models, drivers have liked Yaris’ five-speed manual shifter and four speed automatic transmission and highway fuel mileage. Plus, fun to drive is at high level. However, they do not like interior, poor value overall. They believe that interior do not reach competitors level and its appearance is not good. Low price and decent gas mileage, causing it becomes customary car for commuters. On the other hand, motortrend.com finds Fiat 500 as stylish, compelling, and enjoy driving.  Underpowered, engineering concerns, compromised convertible, high price are drawbacks of Fiat 500. In addition, driving high speed is causing fiat to get flapped. Fiat 500’ most power is its design, but it is questionable to worth it its price.
