Introduction

The goal of any company is to attract consumers to their product 24 hours, 7 days week. When a product become a necessity, to live without the product leaves the consumer with a sense of withdrawal. Very few companies accomplish this goal, especially outside the realm of the drug industry. However, one company in particular, Facebook, has achieved the same status by providing consumers with a product that is easy-to-use, free, and allows the user to perform numerous functions at home or at work. Facebook is used by millions because of its ease to stay in contact with family and friends. More importantly, Facebook provides its users with technological innovations that seem to know exactly what the user wants next. In conjunction with Facebook’s business model, effective leadership and substantial revenues from advertising, Facebook will continue to grow.

Strategic Analysis

Facebook’s strategy to the market conditions is what made the company grow from a single dorm room into a thriving enterprise. At Facebook’s most basic root, it provides users a way to stay in contact with family and friends while informing others of the user’s progression through life. Society does not know what social media was before Facebook, websites such as SixDegrees.com, Blogger, or Friendster (O'Neill, online) only existed in the dark corners of the attic. What Facebook brought to the college students during its inception was the ability to keep in touch with friends across the US, share photos of one’s life, and to expression feelings, opinions, and thoughts in a forum that was easy-to-use and free. Moreover, Facebook has proved time and time again its ability to keep up with the needs of its consumers by providing additional content (Games and apps, groups, events etc…). Its strategy for keeping Facebook free proved spot on, as advertising companies are lining up to pay for space because advertisers know millions of users log onto Facebook each day....
