Elvis Presley was known as the first real Rock and Roll artist of his time. He had good skills in both singing and acting. His fame came despite of a childhood of poverty where the family was deep in trouble. When Elvis Presley was older he tried to push his past behind and forget his childhood, but no matter what he did he still loved it and he would always remember the place where he grew up.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935. Elvis Presley was born a twin, but his twin died at birth. His mother was Gladys Presley and his father was Vernon Presley (Brown and Broeske 2). Raising Elvis Presley was hard for his parents. They had no help and were in desperate need on money so they had Elvis Presley sleep in a sack in the field while Gladys worked. Gladys had the most difficult time with Elvis Presley when Vernon Presley went to jail for forgery when Elvis Presley was only 3 (Brown and Broeske 7-9). Gladys Presley couldn’t pay their bills alone and eventually she had to leave her house and move into her cousin’s house. Vernon Presley was pardoned out of jail 16 months after his sentence (Brown and Broeske 9-11). At the age of 12 Vernon and Gladys Presley move to Shake Rag which is a colored community. Elvis Presley gets his first real guitar at the age of 11 for his birthday (Brown and Broeske 13-15).

At the age of 14 Elvis Presley moves to Lauderdale Courts. Elvis goes to high school at L.C. Humes High (Brown and Broeske 17-20). In high school Elvis Presley was the worst in English. Elvis Presley had no friends in high school and was very lonely....
