Please read the following case and respond to the following questions.

1. Use Porter-Lawler and Vroom’s Expectancy Theory to help Harold explain civil service employment as it applies to himself. Be sure to fully explain the theory and its application, supporting your position! (30 points).

2. Use Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory to compare and contrast Harold and Theresa’s motivational setting at their respective workplaces. Be sure to fully explain the theory and its application. (30 points).

3. Identify the three components of attitude. Discuss these components as it relates to Harold. Be specific and support your response. (40 points).

Harold has been working for the county government in a large metropolitan area for his entire working life. Straight out of high school, he obtained a clerical job and, after finishing college, has subsequently worked slowly up the ranks to a mid- level management position. Although there have been budget cuts and “downsizing” in various areas of county government, Harold feels quite secure in his position. He knows that he is competent, has received consistently good annual evaluations and takes care to be politically astute. He likes and respects his boss, but that doesn’t help with his problem: Harold is bored to tears with his job. He can barely get out of bed in the morning and frequently thinks he can’t possibly sit through another meeting. The prospect of doing the same thing for another 15 years before early retirement at 62 is so dismal that he tries not to think about it.
