Personal Values

Values form the foundational underpinning of behavior. This is true on an individual and a corporate level. When individual and corporate values are miss-aligned and working at cross-purposes, tension will result, and productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness diminish. Every individual must understand the values of the company for which they work, and every company should take a proactive role in shaping the values of the individuals who work within.

The Williams Institute has established an Ethics Awareness Inventory to measure ethical perspective and style along four philosophical lines. This data is distilled into a CORE score (C for character, O for obligation, R for results and E for equity) that provides a snapshot of the ethical philosophy. My CORE score (C:17, O:6, R:-9, E:-14) indicates that I believe “ethics relies on exemplary character to make the difficult choices” and that “an individual would be incapable of choosing between conflicting rules or standards of right and wrong without already possessing good character” (2006). For a high C score, the ends do not justify the means and the greatest good does not justify bad decisions. A person is to be more highly valued than productivity, and to develop a company that operates with integrity, it must invest in the ethical development of the individuals. It is not enough to create a climate of equity that obligates correct behavioral result, the character of the person is the fundamental aspect of sound ethical decision making. These values accurately reflect my belief system.

Kudler Fine Foods appears to function with similar ethical presuppositions as evidenced by the company mission to provide the highest quality goods and services rather than settling for inferior products that may produce a much higher profit margin.
