Critiquing D.D. Willaimson

D. D. Williamson designed a list of 78 projects in which the organization wanted

to prioritize, organize, and select project for future utilization. The firm used a four step

method to rate each project, while establishing criteria for prioritizing projects, weighing

each criterion, and refining the list of projects. Last, they rated each project on each

criterion with the total ratings. Each team member was asked to write three different

criteria on a Post It Note (giving autonomy over the rating process). These Post It Notes

were divided into similar items and each group was named. This process established the

important criteria for selection. The criteria were then used to determine how well each

project would fit into the strategy of the corporation (Kloppenberg, 2008).

Members of the team assigned each group a score to weigh each criteria group.

More important groups were given a score of 10, less important groups were given a

score of 6 to 9, and the least important groups were assigned a score of 5 or less. Criteria

are weighted in order to help place the projects in order of importance as they align with

the goals of the corporation (Kloppenberg, 2014). After the criteria was established and

weighted, the list of projects was refined. Projects that were listed as individual projects

but were really one project happening concurrently in different locations were

discovered as the list was changed. Thus reducing the number of projects on the

list on the new project list. There were also projects added to the list that had not been

formally identified as project earlier. The criteria helped to determine which projects
