Week 1:

1. Are you a good fit to telework? Why or why not? As a manager would you encourage teleworking?

I believe that I would be a good fit for the teleworking lifestyle. The primary reason would be all the extra time I would save just from driving to and from work everyday. I would also enjoy working on my own schedule. When I’m working on a task I might want to take a break and come back to it later when I am in a better mindset. I do think that this would work in moderation. For example if there was one day a week where those who work together got together and had a meeting about their work and progress. As a manager I would encourage at least partial teleworking but from a managers point of view, although I feel that it is still reassuring actually seeing your people and being able to interact with them and build a relationship. This also depends on what kind of industry we are dealing with. There are situations in which telecommuting could work better than others.

2. As part of corporate social responsibility, many organizations have adopted the triple bottom line philosophy. Do you agree that organizations are more effective when they focus on profits, improving conditions for society and for the environment?

Yes I believe that this method works. By using this method it allows companies to have a balanced vision on what needs to be done. I think that organizations are more effective when using this system and although sometimes it may not appear like it in the books, profit is not the only thing people look at anymore. It is a perfect blend of these three pillars that leads to economic success.
