1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 GSM

Group Special Mobile was founded in 1982. This system was soon named the Global System for Mobile Communication. GSM was the world’s first cellular system to specify digital modulation and network level architectures and services, and is the world’s most popular 2G technology. GSM was developed to solve the fragmentation problems of the first cellular systems in Europe. GSM was originally developed to serve as the pan – European Cellular Service and promised a wide range of network services through the use of ISDN.
