5 Ways to Beef Up Your Brain

Everyone is a little forgetful at times, and no one can remember everything that was ever told to them. Luckily, there are five ways to beef up your brain! This list includes: eating your brain food, going to the gym, bending your mind, memory tricks, and sleeping. First on the list is eating your brain food. “You are what you eat.” This not only applies to your brain, but for the rest of your body as well. An unhealthy eating habit equals an unhealthy brain. A balanced diet that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, walnuts, and kiwi fruit will keep the brain alert and healthy. Next on the list is hitting the gym. Several studies have suggested that working out half an hour every other day will impact the memory centers of your brain. Exercising is a stressor to your body which takes away some of the stress from the brain. By working out chemicals are released in your brain which causes the brain’s neurons to become stronger and healthier. Third on the list is bending your mind. Not only should you be working out your body but your mind as well. Studies have shown that playing games such as crossword puzzles, memory games, and brainteasers can boost the minds potential. Next on the list is memory tricks. Confidence in your cognitive abilities could actually affect how well your memory functions. If you have a good idea of the information you'll need to recall later, you're more likely to remember it. Last on the list is resting. Sleep is what allows you to turn your short term memories for the day into the long term memories that will last, hopefully, a lifetime. A better way of putting it is by saying that sleep is how our mind reviews information once it has already been collected. By using these five mind tips, you can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.
