The period of imitation (1910 – 1924)

By 1919, the UP College Folio published the literary compositions of the first Filipino writers in English. They were the pioneers in short story writing. They were then grouping their way into imitating American and British models which resulted in a stilted, Artificial and unnatural style. Lacking vitality and spontaneity. Their models included Longfellow, and Hawthorne, Emerson and Thoreau, Wordsworth and Tennyson, Thackeray and Macaulay, Allan Poe, Irving and other American writers of the Romantic School.

Fernando Maramag - was an excellent poet and journalist in English. He had a rich style and deep understanding of human nature qualities which made his poetry appealing to all readers.

And also Maramag published poems which were devoured and admired by the reading public. Like, My Queen Tagala, “Atheist” A Christ Without A Cross, Moonlight on Manila Bay, The Rural Maid, Jose Rizal and the Presentation.

Juan F. Salazar – is a Chilean Anthropologist video maker. He has written several journal articles and book chapters on media Anthropology and indigenous media in Latin America.

And also Salazar published in his poems like; My Air Castle, The Carnival, My Mother.

Jose Hernandez Diaz – was an Argentine journalist poet, and politician best known as the author of the epic poem Martin fierro.
