Controlled demolition of World Trade Center – Conspiracy theory

September 11, 2001 is one of the most tragic and unforgettable days for every American in history. Series of suicide attacks from Al-Qaeda upon United States involving two hijacked airliners destroyed The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The terrorists took over Flight 11 from American Airlines and Flight 175 from United airlines and intentionally crashed the planes into the Twin Towers, killing everyone on board and thousands working in the buildings. Both skyscrapers collapsed within a short amount of time and destroyed or damaged nearby buildings.

The way the World Trade Center collapsed raised questions among many people and especially those who observed it. Numerous unfounded theories about conspiracy associated with the terrorist attacks were propagated. One of the most popular myths is that The World Trade Center collapsed because of a controlled demolition. The theory was first introduced in 2001. Some of the main advocates of that belief are the physicist Steven Jones, architect Richard Gage, chemists Niels Harrit and Kevin Ryan, as well as many others. This hypothesis is mainly associated with allegations that the U.S. government had planned the destruction of the WTC in order to justify the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. They claim that the Twin Towers succumbed not because of the damage caused by the plane hit, but that there were explosives rigged prior to September 11. The Twin Tower buildings had been designed to withstand significant stress and the fires were not hot enough to melt the structural steel used in the construction. Demolition theory proponents argue that the aircraft’s impact and the resulting fires could not have weakened the structure enough to trigger the catastrophic collapse without additional energy, such as the one from explosives or special destructive materials called thermites.
