In the period of mobile phone technology, 3G technology will forever be connected to the starter of the smart phone era. As mobile phones progress so will technology. The world wants mobility, connectivity and quicker technology for mobile phones.

The four parts to compare and contrast are: service and application, network architecture, data throughput and user perceptions. Services presented by 3G wireless networks are CDMA2000, UMTS, and Edge with many others (Turban / Volonino 2011). The 4G network are Wimax2 and LTE. The applications are where users get addicted to using technology. 3G gave users new options with applications including video streaming, video calling and video conferencing alone with a large selection of multimedia applications. 4G applications contain game services, web access, HD mobile TV, and video conferencing as well. A difference among the two networks is within the network design. The 3G network is a large cell based network with a circuit-switched subsystem. It counts on satellite connection that connects to towers. For instance, someone makes a call or connects to the internet, a signal is sent to a 3G cell site. The information moves from the cell tower to central switching office by a wire line fiber optic network. Then the central office connects the call or data. The 4G networks is a combination of wireless LAN and wide area. 4G is internet protocol (IP) system. When a Verizon customer gets on a website or used an application based on internet, a signal is transmitted to a 4G cell site. The request goes from the satellite to the central office wirelessly using microwave technology (Seagan 2012). Microwave technology is more dependable than a wire line transmission because there is not as much downtown on the network.

Something else that is different is the data throughput. The rate for 3G data throughput is...
